Concordia Seminary serves church and world by providing theological education and leadership centered in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ for the formation of pastors, missionaries, deaconesses, scholars, and leaders in the name of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Concordia Seminary is currently engaged in a search for a Full-Time Associate Dean for Urban and Cross Cultural Ministry to work in their Ministerial Formation Office.

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Associate Dean for Urban and Cross-Cultural Ministry is a faculty position that will provide administrative oversight and program development to the Center for Hispanic Studies and the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology.  He will direct the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology. He will also develop programs to integrate cross-cultural and non-English training into the residential programs.  This position is also an endowed chair, and will serve as the Lutheran Foundation Professor of Urban and Cross-Cultural Ministry.




  • Assess the current campus environment and residential programs for cross- cultural awareness and propose strategies and activities for enhancing cultural sensitivity across campus and in all programs.
  • Administer and develop the Center for Hispanic Studies program and the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology program, including:
  • Teach courses from various academic programs, bringing experience and insight from a cross- cultural perspective to the classroom setting. Courses taught will depend on the expertise of the faculty member.
  • Develop and organize the annual Multi-Ethnic Symposium in collaboration with the Continuing Education Department.



  • Ordained pastor of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or a partner church
  • Proven experience in cross-cultural ministry settings
  • Demonstrated administrative skills
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in a related field attained or in progress
